Internships & Work Experience

Arc participant working at their office.

Build skills through real, paid work experience.

The Arc San Francisco partners with employers and community organizations to create paid internship opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities. Internships give participants the chance to take on real workplace responsibilities, build skills, explore different kinds of work, and prepare for future employment.

Finding the Right Opportunity

Internship opportunities vary by workplace and role. Workforce Development staff work with participants to explore opportunities based on their interests, strengths, goals, preferences, and support needs. Participants can gain experience in areas such as:

  • Customer service and guest experience
  • Office and administrative support
  • Facilities and operations
  • Food service and hospitality
  • Parks, recreation, and outdoor work
  • Animal care and veterinary support

What Comes Next?

An internship can help participants identify what they enjoy, build skills they want to continue developing, and prepare for their next employment goal. Workforce Development staff can help participants reflect on their experience and plan their next steps.
